The Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona. It is considered the biggest canyon worldwide as it measures impressively 270 miles long, 1 mile deep and 18 miles wide. It is estimated that it was formed around 5 or 6 million years ago, when a huge channel was formed through rocks. The first people who explored this canyon were Spanish explorers. They explored the Grand Canyon in the 16th century,more precisely in 1540. The Grand Canyon was first legally protected by the state in 1893, which later, in 1919, became an official United States Park.
